How to use ChatGPT (and how to access GPT-4o)

Do you want to employ the most well-liked AI chatbot out there? We will guide you through setting up ChatGPT and making the most of its features.

When OpenAI released ChatGPT for general usage in late 2022, the corporation sparked a revolution in artificial intelligence (AI). Since then, executives at Twitter, Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta have been fascinated by ChatGPT, a chatbot driven by OpenAI's large language models (LLMs), and it has dominated headlines and inspired them to start their own generative AI projects.

The creator of the most well-known AI chatbot has revealed a ton of new features that will be available to ChatGPT users for free. The majority of these features were previously exclusive to Plus subscribers, who pay $20 a month. With this update, free users will be able to use the GPT Store to access custom GPT bots, upload documents and photos to discuss them with ChatGPT, browse to provide more up-to-date context, use the advanced data analysis feature, and access GPT-4o, OpenAI's newest and most sophisticated LLM.

This upgrade is currently being rolled out progressively to ChatGPT Enterprise members, as well as free, Plus, and Team users. Not all ChatGPT users—both free and paid—may have access to these capabilities just yet because of the weeks it will take for this progressive deployment to happen. We will go over how to utilize the new features including ChatGPT.

How to use ChatGPT

Click "Sign up" in the bottom left of the chat window to register, then fill in the required information as directed. When registering for an account on OpenAI's website, a working phone number is needed for verification.

Once ChatGPT is open, familiarize yourself with its interface. Here's a summary of what to expect, using the following image as an example:

  • Chat and conceal sidebar buttons: You may always start a new discussion by clicking on the "New chat" button located on the left side of your screen. ChatGPT provides context-rich responses by recalling the past topics you have discussed in a discussion. Even though the bot might recall some information if you are logged in, starting a new conversation starts a fresh discussion without any background information.

  • Chat history: You can modify the titles of each chat, and the left sidebar retains a record of your previous exchanges in case you need to go back to one. Additionally, you have the option to remove specific talks, switch off chat history, share your chat history with others, or erase your complete chat history.

  • Account (if logged in): You may access your account details, such as settings, the ability to log out, get support, and configure ChatGPT, by clicking on your name at the bottom left of the page. You might notice an Upgrade option here to join up for ChatGPT Plus if you do not currently have it.

  • The ChatGPT dropdown menu: located above your chat toward the top of the screen, allows you to select which model to use. GPT-4o, GPT-4, and GPT-3.5 are among the options available on the menu. To access GPT-4, though, you need to sign in with a premium ChatGPT Plus account.

  • Your prompts: Your initials or account photo is on the left of the chat window, and the questions or suggestions you ask the AI chatbot show in the center.

    • ChatGPT's responses:The ChatGPT logo will show up on the left whenever it answers one of your questions. Each response has the Copy, Thumbs Up, and Thumbs Down buttons to the right of it. To put the text somewhere else and comment on how correct the response was, you can copy it to your clipboard. OpenAI employs reinforcement learning to refine the AI tool based on this human input.

    • Options below responses: Below every response is a menu with options to read the response aloud, copy text, regenerate, report an incorrect response, and modify the model to replace the response with an alternative model.

    • Text area: You can enter your questions and prompts here.

    • ChatGPT disclaimer: The fine print from OpenAI is located beneath the text input field. The disclaimer says that ChatGPT is not perfect. Verify critical information." Because chatbots like ChatGPT sometimes have hallucinations and provide absurd responses, OpenAI has included this notice (always make careful to fact-check their responses). This section previously displayed the ChatGPT model version that was currently in use, however OpenAI disabled this.

    • 3. Start writing your prompts and questions : You can ask the chatbot any pressing questions you have and see what replies you receive after you know how to use ChatGPT. The options are virtually limitless. Both your personal life and a variety of professional endeavors, such as software development, writing, and translation, can benefit from the ChatGPT application.
