Israel has escalated its assaults on the Palestinian city of Rafah, defying the International Court of Justice's (ICJ) directive. In order to provide sufficient access to aid for Gaza, the court also mandated that Israel open the Rafah crossing in the southern portion of the valley. Ground and aerial forces attacked Rafah town in force on Saturday. Following the ICJ's directive last Friday to immediately cease the offensive on Rafah, Israeli forces launched their assault on the city.
Concurrently, fresh endeavors to establish a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas have commenced in Paris, France.
Following its consideration of an application filed by South Africa against Israel, the court issued these directives on May 10. RG requested in its motion that this court act quickly to put an end to Israel's operation in Rafah. It is legally required of Member States to abide by the rulings of the UN Supreme Court. Nevertheless, this court lacks the necessary personnel to carry out the directive.
Israel started a huge onslaught on the Gaza Strip on Saturday morning in defiance of the ICZ mandate. Witnesses from Palestine claimed that attacks were also occurring in Deil al-Balah city, Gaza City, and the Jabalia refugee camp in addition to Rafah. A Palestinian refugee named Umm Muhammad al-Ashka declared, "There is nothing left here." We expect that Israel will be under pressure to halt this conflict as a result of the court's ruling.
Mohammad Saleh, a resident of Gaza City, claimed that Israel is a state that thinks it is beyond the law. Thus, in my opinion, Israel cannot be stopped without using force.
UN humanitarian relief chief describes Israel's attack in Gaza as an unimaginable catastrophe. It has to end, this nightmare.
